Advantages and disadvantages of tinting your car

I am living in a place where the temperature can reach 50 degree Celsius during summer. So, tinting car window with high quality after market film is a necessity here. Beside cooling the car, tinting has many advantages and few disadvantages as well.

What is car window tinting?

Tinting is done by installing a thin laminated film to the glass window mainly to reduce head and stop harmful ultraviolet light. The film are made of  Polyethylene Terephthalate . There are mainly 4 types of window tint film. They are -

• Dyed Window Tint film: This is the cheapest and less functional window tint film. The heat reduction is not particularly high and it tends to fade way with time. From outside it looks plain black and it might not be legal in some places. 
• Metallic film: Metallic window film uses small metallic particles instead of dye to prevent heat entering inside the car. These metallic particles are invisible to the eye. Metallic films does a good job in stopping the heat, but it might cause problem in phone network and GPS signal.
• Carbon tinted film: This is the Second most expensive window film which uses carbon to block infrared and UV lights to reduce heat. It does not block mobile network or GPS signal and the tint last long. 
• Ceramic Film: This is the most expensive and most functional window film. This window film is prepared by using ceramic particle to stop the highest amount of heat without giving any drawback. 

The advantages: 

• Reduce heat: The first and most important function of window film is to reduce heat. Even the car with the best air condition won't make you comfortable when the temperature is 50 degree Celsius, unless you have installed some good quality aftermarket film.  
• Dashing look: Good tinting makes the car look dashing. Everybody is going to appreciate your car when it has some nice shiny tinted film. 
• Prevents harmful UV light: Tinting prevents harmful UV light to enter inside the car and thus protects your skin and car interior. 
• Protects Privacy: Tinting provides good privacy as people won't be able to see clearly what is inside the car. As a result, thieves won't get a chance to identify what's inside the car and attempt to steal anything. Besides, your family's personal privacy will be protected too. 
• Air condition efficiency: Tinting reduces pressure from your car AC by reducing the heat inside the car. So, AC works more efficiently, needs less power and saves fuel. Besides, the under-stressed air conditioning system is supposed to last long. 
• Reduces damage from accidents: Tinting might reduce damage from car accidents, as the laminated film gives additional support to the glass window. As a result he glass does not break so easily , even if it does , it does not shatter into pieces. 
• Comfort and ambiance: Tinted car feels more comfortable and ambient. Driving the car at 2 pm under scorching heat feels like you are driving the car before sunset. 

Disadvantages:

• Expensive: Tinting is not cheap. High quality tinting cost a lot and for some people the cost benefit might not be satisfactory. 
• Legal issue: Light transmission is necessary for visibility. Every country has their own motor law in determining  how much percentage of light should enter inside the car. You are will get a fine if your tinting percentage violates the law.
